I came back to see that my quail Maurice was badly injured, it looks like his lady roommate beat him really bad. I’ve had to have them in this temporary coop as their other big coop is housing a sick chicken, I had no idea she would do this to him. No idea. He seems to have lost a lot of blood and I don’t have electrolyte stuff for his water at this house, I cleaned him up and gave him water. Please let me know what I can give him to drink or eat to strengthen him. Please, he means so much to me I feel so horrible that she did this. I hope he can recover, I don’t know how long he’s been like this because I had to be at the other house for a vet appointment for the chicken. Violent pics will be attached. I was gonna put Vaseline on the wounds, is that a good idea?

Alright, I would start with cleaning him up with a saline solution, or warm water in a spray bottle. Then put apple cider vinegar in his water, to give him a boost. After cleaning him up, spray the wounds with vetrycin, and put neosporin on the affected areas. Is there any damage to his eyes? Did they get pecked and did you get a look at them? Keep him in a place away from flies so they down lay eggs in his wound, maybe in the house if possible. Is her eating or drinking on his own, make a paste with his food, and make that available to him. Mushy food is much easier to eat then hard. And instead of using water to mush it, use clear gatorade. Try and get ahold of some kind of electrolytes, or vitamins, but until then, use gatorade in the food, and AP vinegar in the water. Keep at it and I'm sure he will make a full recovery! usually poultry can recover from some pretty sever things. You got this, and Good luck, Avery :hugs

I would offer him a bit of sugar water. I wouldn't give ACV since a lot of birds won't drink it.

Vetericyn is good to use for cleaning the wounds, but if you don't have that, use saline or make your own saline (1 teaspoon salt per quart of water, bring to boil 15 minutes, let cool).

Triple antibiotic ointment on the wounds, but in a pinch, you can use a little vaseline to keep it moist.

Do your best to get him hydrated.

Thanks @Wyorp Rock about the AC vinegar, I have learned so much from this website! Sugar water is a good option too. Hope he gets better soon!

This happened to 2 of my quail but from the males fighting, do you only have 1 male and 1 female if so the male may be a bit too rough on her and or over breeding so she's putting him in his place. But I just dabbed the wound with a wet paper towel isolate them then ran to tractor supply to get some poultry ointment and electrolights. But remember their bodies are made to heal on their own so if you don't have access to that stuff right now it's ok, just get it when you can.

Thank you so much everyone, this means so much to me I’m so grateful. He seems to be getting better I’m gonna make the saline right now and feed him some Gatorade and mushed food. Should I mush the food in Gatorade or water? And I got acv but should I still use that?

Is the only ingredient clorhexidedin? If it is, it should be fine. I would do sugar water just to be safe, Wyorp rock is right, its important for him to be hydrated and he may no drink the ACV water. I would mush the food with clear gatorade, for the boost. don't worry about feeding him gatorade pure, just mush the food with it and keep the sugar water available to him with the mushed food. Is he eating and drinking on his own? What about his eyes, were they affected in the fight?

Drinking when I dip his beak but no eating, he’s still very drowsy. One eye is more closed than the other but they’re not injured. I’ll attach pics. I think I forgot to mention there was a small break in his beak, probably where a lot of the blood came from. It’s hard to attach a pic cuz it’s so small.
