Please help hernia? Or something else?

Is the yolk now absorbing? Is it getting smaller? Once it's pretty much all absorbed she should be fine with the others but just watch for them pecking at her rear end. Chicks are fine to go without food or water after hatch for 72 hours but I like to get them eating and drinking between 24 and 48 hours. I move chicks into the brooder 24 hours after hatch and let them settle for a few hours. They generally just go to sleep as they are still recovering from hatching. After a few hours I start tapping my finger in the chick crumb so it makes a noise like a mother hen would make pecking in the food. This should encourage them to come and investigate the food and start pecking. Whilst there I also gently start dipping their beaks in the water so they know where it is. Once you get a few eating and drinking the others should follow suit.

It is still quite large but she is houdini and keeps escaping so am very concerned as im out for the morning. It doesn't seem to be getting any smaller just drying out a little. I have just put one of them that seems to be alout more relaxed and the company seems to have helped.

This is my poor little guy now is it time i let her go? Has been doing great but is now refusing food but is still full off cheeping

Its breaking me apart tbh.. Never been into the chicken scene but lovely mother inlaw thinks incubating them with the kids is great fun for them but i shelter them from this side of it. I have done 3 incubations now and the first 2 nothing went wrong and hatched all up 38 healthy chickens and thisnlot we got 23 with this sick little dude and another that has no obvious signs of illness just a little slower to feed. I will incubate again but if this happens many more times i think it will be it for me

I'm welling up here for you reading your post :(

Please don't let this put you off. It really is just part of incubating and hatching and I'm afraid not every chick hatches or thrives well.

Thanks for your encouragement i keep getting told that this one isnt my fault and too look at the fact that i do have 21 healthy little cuties but i swear it doesnt make it any easier. So i have bathed its bottom and put some more bedadine on it and if he is still fighting tomorrow im going to track down some antibiotics. Im hoping there is still hope. He is wrapped up nicely in a washer on his own in the brooder box he is very relaxed so lets hope we get through this little hurdle
