How can I meet them halfway with putting a kennel around the coop? I can only find big ones, so asking for a smaller one isn't an option.

I can't drive, but would come in the car and pay for the kennel.

Will the kennel panels fit in the car?

I remember when I was a dolt at asking for something and have blocked most of the memory because I was condescending explaining it. Your difficulty with them sounds different, but sussing out the most effective (= keeping their hackles down) way will get you permissions. Eventually possibly they will just let you be responsible without having to play "mother may I".

I ment instead of you driving the whole distance... see if they will meet you halfway for the pick up of the panels. That's all... instead of 2 hours, cuts your time down to 1.

I will admit that I am sometimes part of the problem when negotiating-I am stubborn and also need to work on reading the room. In the past, I have a history of 'asking for more' which basically means that I'd get something, then immediately ask for another/more of that thing. However I've BASICALLY FIXED that problem, and with chickens, I know exactly where I want to stop.
-7 chickens (originally 6 but we got 4 in our rental instead of 3)
-FULL SETUP size: 5x10
-coop size: 5x6
-run size: 5x10
and that's where I would stop. I have all the breeds planned, too.
(yes I know that the space is a bit cramped, but I think still ok (4.25 sq ft per bird in coop, 7.15 sq ft per bird in run) (if not ok I can go down to 6 birds)

My parents both work at a school and in the past have borrowed the pickup trucks that the maintenance people use. I think that we could do that.

I would drive the whole 2 hours...but it's also kinda illegal...and I also don't know how to drive. I don't have an issue spending money on chickens or driving places, I just don't have that much money or a driver's license.
