Okay so one of my hens (about a year old) is starting to act very odd. She stands in the corner of the coop alone and completely ignores everyone and everything that tries to interact with her. The back of her comb is slowly starting to turn purple and feels cold. She often looses her balance and falls over, lays in the spot she fell in and slowly gets up in about a minute. Also a few days ago while I was putting them back in the coop at dusk, I lifted her up and either a lot of water or saliva came rushing out of the mouth (from then on I have been watching her carefully). I honestly have no clue as to whats going on. Please help!

The color of the comb is a definite clue that she doesn't feel well. I am probably the least experienced person on here, so hopefully someone will know the answer for you, but my first guess would be parasites. It definitely affects the balance. I've had the same type of issues with my rooster, but he's also very old so it could be other things with him too. Is there a vet around you can call? I put diatomaceous earth (food grade kind) in my chickens' feed, and that has kept them pretty parasite-free. The people on this site are extremely knowledgeable-- you might want to put some symptoms into the search box and do some reading. Good luck. I know how upset I am when one of my birds is sick....

Usually an indication of circulation problems. Possibly heart issues. Separate her ,bring her inside and see if her comb goes back to normal color. Check her for impacted crop, look her over for mites/lice. Is she eating/drinking?

Alright so I ran out to the store and bought some Electrolyte powder stuff to put in the water and hoped that would do something but it did get her off her feet for a while. I also gave them some food supplement in hopes that it would do the same thing but she did not seem interested in eating. I am going to separate her from the other hens. I do not think there is much left to do and I cant afford to take her to the vet. Any ways to make her comfortable for the next few days?
