I am a member of the SCA and my local branch is holding a feast in October. For those that don't know, the SCA is all about historical reenactment, so this will be a medieval style feast. The fantastic main dish planned needs large chickens with their heads and necks still attached...and small pigs!

Anyway, I said I would ask BYC if anyone has meat birds that will be ready for the table in October. We will buy them, of course. We have a budget for this, but no one thought to plan far enough in advance for me to start any meaties, and no one else knows where to even BEGIN looking.

If you have meaties that will be ready then and could sell some of them it would make a lot of people very happy!

Another idea, in case no one here can accommodate, would be to check your local ethnic markets. I know my local Asian meat market has whole rabbits, chickens with their heads/feet still attached, and all kinds of other critters. Also, I see BBQ sized weaner pigs on craigslist frequently. Good luck!

Have you tried placing a ad with this information in the Buy Sell Trade section?

Get some broiler chickens of an age so that they are about ten weeks when they need to be slaughtered. They will be huge unless someone screws up raising them.

Hope that worked, I've seen ads for someone up in Glendale selling meaties, don't know if it's the same person on not. It does seem there are usually some roos on craigslist also, probably wouldn't be as large as you'd like but they need to give more notice next time! One can't just pull full grown meaties out of your.......err........hat.

I have 3 Cornish X hens that are almost 15 weeks old right now, I never butchered them, they are getting pretty big. They free range and run around. I don't know if they would be too tough by then, but I am willing to part with them. How many do you need? I don't know of anyone raising any right now.
