yes save a chick is an additive to the water. to find that stuff you will have to find a farm store such as tractor supply company or some sort of feed store

I am also looking at all this recipes online (Greener Pastures Farm's Chick Starter Feed) which seems time consuming but a one shot deal.

If i want to work with something local and now, could i use something like Pedialyte? Pediatric Electrolyte Solution. Doesn't have any iron.

ummm im not sure about that but im sure those in this section (raising baby chicks...link below) can better answer that question for you as i have a local feed store that i can get the save a chick and chick starter at

i dont buy but a 25 lb bag of feed at a time as they can go bad and get mold and bugs and other yucky stuff that can harm the babies so i try and stay away from making my own as i would want to make it in bulk and more than likely it would probably go to waste on me before i used it all.

Your chicks, especially the segregated one, need a way to get out from under that heat lamp. They don't tolerate being that hot all the time. They need areas to get down to room temp or move into the heat as they choose. Two cardboard boxes taped together with a door cut between them works well. Spend some time over on the raising baby chicks thread.
