Can anyone tell from this pic if this is a male or female? I have the opportunity to adopt this duck tomorrow morning and I have to drive 2 1/2 hrs. to do so. I want this to be a female because I already have males. Any ideas?
Thanks!!!

UPDATE: I got to the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue facility and once I saw this duck and I didn't care if it was male or female. He is very calm and shy and I fell in love instantly. His name is "Travis". He will be loved and cared for in his new forever home.

Depends on the age...my best guess would be female, because the end of the wing is browner and not green if you know where i'm talking about...also there is no tail curl.

I don't know the exact age, my guess is under 6 months. It is at a waterfowl rescue facility. I saw a pic of it as a baby and inquired and they had to update the photo to this one. I'm so hoping female.

My drake got his drake feather about 11-12 weeks, but prior to that, he looked just like the ducks. Then his color began to change, and is nearly complete now at 17 weeks.

If you are sure this duck is older than 3 months, you can be pretty sure it's a female. She is very pretty!

The head doesn't look like it is trying to darken, no drake feather, bill and legs are both slate....

I vote girl - and a very pretty one at that!

Yes, it is. That's what worries me. It's what they deal with and I'm just hoping, this one time, they made a mistake. I'm going to go take a look tomorrow and if they DO say male, I'll just adopt some other female. Wish me luck

If you get to talk to Jennifer, tell her Terrie from BYC says Hi!

And if she says it is a drake, be assured it is.

ETA, I changed my mind. I see the dark head and wing speculum. I think it is a young drake.
