I stuck my duck in with my rabbit while i was cleaning out her cage and i had to go to the store and run a few errands so i did and when i came back and took her out of her cage her left foot was swollen. the rabbit had eaten everything up to half of her leg. Her other foot is pretty messed up too. Shes missing some webbing and a toe. I've never had anything happen like this before im in hysterics right now can someone pleassseee give me advice!!!!! Shes just a baby maybe 8-9 weeks old. I dont know if its possible but could something like grow back or is that impossible? Please contact me ASAP!!

i don't think you will have any of her foot regrow back. skin may scab over and grow but not the bones in the foot. if you can get to cleaning and bandaging the legs and feet you might be able to save them. if you can get the duck to a vet i would suggest it since they can x-ray for any possible bone damage and proper cleaning. and if they had to amputate anything you would already be there. i have heard of prosthetic legs/feet that have been made for ducks, chickens and parrots before.

rabbits can get aggressive on other animals if they feel threatened or don't have enough space for both. (usually why a moma bunny can abort litters or will eat the young if in crowded conditions)

when our chick was nearly pecked to death, someone on this board told me that birds are tough...tougher than we think. the best advice i got was that if the bird is eating and drinking it will probably be okay. i didn't think for a minute that our chick's skin and flesh and feathers would grow back, but it's happening and she's getting better and better every day. now a foot may be a different thing altogether, but i'd still follow the advice about the bird's intake. someone also said to give egg yolks or ground beef or other protein rich food to encourage tissue growth. also pedialyte to restore electrolytes from blood loss.

You won't see any regrowth, but I had a friend who used to rescue one-legged ducks - she said eels were the usual culprits where she lived - and her hoppy ducks were amazingly functional and mobile.

I'm sorry you have had this distressing experience, but I'm sure your duck will surprise you with its wonderful resilience.

OMG _ I am so sorry to hear what has happened. You must have been in such a shock to have that happen. Sounds like your duck will need some antibiotics to stop any infection setting in. I strongly recomend you take your duck to a vet to be checked over. Your duck will need a lot of extra care- not only to heal- but for life.

I have a disabled duck- She hatched with a slipped tendon and has never been able to walk. She lives in my bedroom in a babies Potable cot. She gets a swim every day- and a play out on the grass too. She has to stay on towels and cushions so she doesnt injure herself. I have her food and water propped up so she can easily reach it. She can hop- But not very far or for very long.

Best of luck with your duck- I hope with care and treatment you can save her.
