Hey

Guys I’m deeply saddened to tell you guys that I put her/him down, the chick wasn’t getting any better we tried everything, even save a chic but it wasn’t showing any condition of getting better it kept gasping for air and had became a lot weaker
Good for you for making that call, rather than let it suffer longer than necessary.

OhMaGosh! This is a great idea! As long as each and every post is tagged as "Chicken Myths and Madness," so they won't get quoted and passed along as gospel, I think it would be interesting to read about the foolishness some people pass along as "truth."
Well....whatcha’ waiting fer Roo??
*pushes MROO up to the front of the line*

I know the decision had to have been really hard, but it was the kindness thing you could do for it.

@Backyardchickenlover89
Not all lessons in life are easy or painless. I’m sorry for the whole situation. In raising chickens we all have to make hard decisions for what is best. All that we can truly do is learn and then share our experience with others in hopes the outcome will be different. That’s what we do.
So thank you for being courageous enough to share. Perhaps someone will read your story and make different choices.

I’m very depressed and I have nobody to turn too except my friendly backyard chicken owners here

I was examining my chicks sex, by a method by holding him/her from the head and letting his/her feet hang from a forum I read on Internet, now my chick is limping and closing his/her eyes, I tried giving it some water and sugar but it doesn’t seem to be working, out of my flock this is my most favourite chick, can someone please tell me what to do and how to save it from dying?

Im hoping the chick will recover but you probably did some damage to the neck. I have several roosters and hens and Ive read that the roosters can get viscious...Im hoping it wont happen but according to all the posts...Ive got to be ready.

Researching was the problem, there is so much misinformation out there that it's very easy to get confused.. I researched for 2 years prior to getting chickens and have revised my techniques several times as I come across new information. I was using heat lamps, found information on the dangers and reasons that they don't need it, so they (my larger birds) no longer have a heat lamp, I put plastic over the gaps between the roof and the side of the coop. I worried about them freezing, I don't do that anymore as I learned they needed ventilation even in the winter, as I am in AZ it truly doesn't get that cold, although we are looking at temps in the mid to high 20's this next week. I do not believe this was due to lack of common sense or research. We all start off as newbies, lesson learned and it was a painful one.
