Please help me decide what to do....

Honestly I would not worry about it (other than, as everyone says, having no further contact with this person). You could mention it to the police if you are worried, of course.

But all they have is your phone and address and email, right? I don't see what they can possibly do with that -- after all, the phone book provides names, addresses and telephone numbers for almost everyone, and it is not real challenging to get email addresses to go with some of those either. If' you're extra concerned about bank accounts or credit cards or whatever that have your email addy as personal information, you might contact those companies and change the email addy to something different. But I really don't see that any harm is likely. This person will just move onto the next potential victim, you know?

Good luck,

Pat

Ranchhand ? Any advice on the postage thing?

I would say that you can get a list of prices from your postal service and I would try packing things and weighing them, then you will get used to the combinations of goods and the costs.

You will soon get the hang of it.

I knit so things tend to be different for each item, but I have so far set a covering cost and will negotiate. But I do plan on having a more refined system depending on where I am sending.

No contract, no deal. Don't worry about it. I would also let her know you reported her little scam to the police and they are on the look out. Any further emails from her will be a sign of aggression and you will not hesitate to report her to the authorities.

These scams are known as Nigerian 419 scams. Very common and unfortunately a lot of people fall for them.

You can look them up on google. I used to get them ALL the time when I was selling birds online. I would just hit delete and send them straight to the trash!

What if I use only the priority fixed rate packaging? Then use a weight based system to determine which package. I have been over looking at paypal and it says that I can do postage by weight so this should work, correct?

Sounds good.

Get a rough weight for each of your items. The PO has zone charts on-line for the cost to ship different weights & sizes. After so many items it could be a flat fee, since you could use one of the flat fee boxes.

Here's a link to the rates for flat free shipping. That's the way I was thinking of doing it when I get around to selling my hand-made stuff. Then there's no worried about actual weight or zones. It's just a matter of what fits in each size, then charge the flat rate + packing material costs (if any).

Rule #1 at PayPal- they are owned and run by ebay- NEVER trust what they say about shipping costs! Notorious for being wrong.

I have something I have to do right now, but in a bit I'll come back and post about shipping costs- it easy once you get the hang of it.

Farmer Kity,

we are both learning here today, see.

thank you for asking these questions,

It has been so useful, and I agree with the posting thing it will work out fine.

You will soon get used to the postage zones and be able to quote the prices right away. Paypal is easy enough really I was terrified of it, but I have learned now.

Good luck to you.

Jena.
