PLEASE HELP ME! Face being eaten? Beaks gone???? Help! GRAPHIC PICS!!!

Rhett&SarahsMom :

OMG So very sorry for you and your girls. That would completely devastate me.. in fact I am thinking of running out and checking on the girls now.

Just so you know. Do NOT use a staple gun to attach the hardware clothe . Raccoons, possums and such can rip that right off. Staples are just not strong enough. We learned that the hard way. A raccoon tore the stuff right off and got our Sophie. Luckily the main coop run was complete and done right. We have decking screws that we put thru large washers and drilled into the wood. The entire run, and the window on the coop is done like that. As well as the brooder top my dh made for the new chicks. The addition will be done the same way .. as well as the summer door we are building to increase airflow when it warms up here.

Again, I am so sorry.

I agree on the staples and we use Decking screws as well.

What about attaching the hardwire cloth with the heavy staples you hammer in? We use those. Staple guns are wimpy.

Similar thing happened to one of our guinea keets. We kept them in a A frame tractor and it had a chicken wire run and the keet would sleep outside with their heads facing the chicken wire. One night one slept with it's head outside the wire. Next morning we found it dead laying right where it slept with no head.

We had a coon getting in our coop and only stealing eggs. It never bothered the chickens. I found it one night when I went out for one of my nightly rounds and the chickens where our in the run as far away from the coop as they could get. I went in and found the coon perched on a rafter where it had just got inside. It had pulled a board away from the coop where we have the run atached. We have covered runs on all but one pen.

Hello everybody! I actually attached the hardware cloth with decking screws yesterday. When I get paid again, I'm going to buy some traps. Unfortunately I can't go get them right now.

I know how that goes. Good deal with the hardware cloth. You can always try the flour trick while you wait on trap money. Or perhaps you could place an ad in the wanted section and someone near you could lend you a trap. I'm sure with that picture people would be falling all over themselves to lend you a hand. Good luck. I'm sure this is all overwhelming.

Lol, it's not real. People make up fake animals and put up pictures to freak people out.
