Please help me!!! Found my chicken hanging!! She's still alive.

Whether it grows back probably depends on how far back from the tip. The closer to the tip, the more likely. I wold keep her on soft foods for a few days.

While she's on the egg diet, you should probably add some vitamins to her water. I hope she continues to improve!

Thanks. Our ladies are totally free range (except they are locked up at night), so I can't imagine I'll be able to catch her and make her eat soft food. I'll check her tonight and see if we need to bring her back inside. I doubt it, she was running around with her girlfriends last I checked.

I had a strangely similar thing happen...........a young cochin cockerel got his leg caught up in the feeder and was left hanging upside down. It was one of those large hanging metal feeders...he somehow managed to get his leg into the opening the food comes out from....and then turned up so he was hanging face pointing down and his leg wedged into the feeder opening and pointing up. I had to take it apart to get him free. Poor guy was exhausted and couldn't use his leg. Within a couple days he was back to normal though. Can you imagine how exhausting that must be?

I can't imagine the headache that they would have from the blood rushing to their head for hours. We have had several roosters get caught on chickenwire and find them hanging upside down. We have only lost one that way but it is pretty horrific when you walk in your chicken house and see a bird hanging upside down. It normally takes them a day or so but they usually snap out of it.
