please help me I am begging you turkey vrs. dog

If he is in shock he will need to be kept warm... can you put him in a garage or shed? Or even in the henhouse in his cage? Give him straw or shavings or even a blanket. Make sure you give him hi protein / hi fat foods - egg, yogurt, whole milk etc

If you do not have a garage or shed, can you bring him inside in his cage? Or give him run of a small room that has no carpet in, like the bathroom? the advice given is good, I hope he is OK. You are doing good! How is he now?

thanks I have him in a cage with a lot of hay hay prolly close to 6 - 8 inches deep a small tarp on top and a twinn thin comforter on top and sheet around top. I am just worried because he is still panting like its hot ? I gave him some cheese and he would not eat it but he ate when I first put him in there and I seen him take like 4-5 seprate drinks from his electrolytes my 10 yo is all tore up. I am so thankful for you guys. I would be lost without Yall.
Thanks again,
Jessa

You want to keep flies away from him, so they won't lay eggs and have maggots in his wounds. Do you have any little place to put them like a screened porch or basement, so the bugs don't get at him. I think he is mostly like this because of the traumatic situation more than from his wounds. I know you are doing all you can, I do think a hen or two of his group would make him feel better when he is awake.

o I moved him a bit and he had pooped a normal poo no blood. surley if he was bleeding inside it would he in his poo by now surley ( fingers crossed )

that is a good sign (the poop). he is eating and drinking another good sign. you mentioned that he is panting. is he outside, it may be too heat hot for him, you mainlhy want him comfortable and out of any stress areas, but if he gets too hot from heat it will not do him good you have to use your own judgement, if he is too hot from heat you may want to open up his pen to give him some air.

you are doing such a great job with him. it is so hard for us to read what animals need. keep us posted.

he is breathing alot slower than yesterday. I don't know if that's good or bad but I guess we will see. Thank you all for your prayers ! I am going to ts today to get some stuff. Anything Yall think I need ?
Thanks ,
Jessa

If you're still having trouble with flies, there is a product for horses. I think it's called SWAT. Check in the area of the horse stuff and it should be easy to find.

Good luck. I hope he's ok.

Just caught this thread. From what I`m reading, he is in good shape. The panting and not standing or walking is typical of trauma after such an experience. The location and size of the wounds is a good thing. Eating, drinking, and eliminating are all positive signs. The boy will be fine. Don`t handle or disturb him too much while he`s trying to get himself together. Leave the wound open to the air and it will heal faster. Good luck and don`t worry.........Pop
