Please help me learn to show my chickens!!!

There should be someone at the sign-in desk that checks for lice and either your NPIP papers or else drawing blood. You treat for lice one week before the show and check them carefully before you leave home. It is really embarrassing to have the inspector find lice on your bird.

You are on your honor to not take birds if you have any sick birds at home.

NPIP inspector can be located through your state veterinarian, or google NPIP with the name of your state. You do not have to be NPIP certified to show, it just makes sign-in easier.

Yes, you enter before the show date. Entry fees are rather small. I paid $4 per bird for my last show. However, other expenses can be steep. Gas to get there, meals, sometimes even a motel. Incidentally, there is sometimes prize money. For my $4 entry, my goose won $8 in prize money. I've seen shows advertised where the best in show prize was several hundred dollars.
