Hi All Bro,

I had 60 quails in my cage started with Almost 4 week birds,
400

they are dying one or two per day. The symptoms are first the are getting slow in activities then paralysed legs , wieght lose and finally to death, temperature is around 100F in day time but i arranged a fan for them it controls the temp around 90F. Is it satisfactory temp for them?
Now they are laying eggs now but im unable to control mortality....... the male to female ratio drops from 30%males-70%females to 50-50 now as I lost mostly the females. I am feeding them the chiken crumbles30% and layer mash70% now mortality drops and is looking much better.

Is temperature is real issue or something else?

Recently i noticed a disease on legs joints ang feet

90 degrees is not all that hot so I do not think this is heat related. It is not a food thing either.

Sounds like it could be one of a couple of things. What is the consistency of the poop? They are at the age that Coccidiosis could be causing trouble. This will cause diarrhea and many times with blood in the poop. The birds will sit in the corner all fluffed up, stop eating and drinking and die.

What is your flooring? Is there bedding of some sort on it?

Where did you get these birds...did you hatch them yourself?

Do all the birds have a swollen LEFT hock like the one in this pic? Is it ever both hocks or just the left hock and foot joint? Because the left only could indicate MS, Mycoplasma Synovea, a bacterial disease that can be treated, but there will be losses and the survivors will be carriers for life, giving this to every new bird you bring in. Denagard is the only medication that treats this disease.

Thanks for the reply,

Dear its hard for me to observe consistency of poop of infected bird in a flock of around 40 birds however i observed the poop color in redish many times.

They mostly eating and drinking but with difficulty due to almost paralysed legs Looks healthy except the legs.

I slaughtered four quails last night just to inspect what is going on with them. Here are the pictures below

I found they have infected wings also

Are any more alive? You might take one in for a necropsy at a vet to check for specific diseases like Mareks or other Mycoplasma's. If nothing is blatant to you at butcher, it may be some sort of virus or bacteria.

So sorry.

Ya have 35 left. They are all looking fine except 2 of them they dont have signs are marks but just limping. I observed this is the start of this disease.

You might take the next one that dies into the vet for a necropsy just to see what all this was about. Has to be some sort of bacterial or viral infection.

I am so sorry.

What is their normal diet? Are they on a formulated quail/poultry diet? The lack of certain vitamins can cause severe weakness although not necessarily swelling. I would not give them electrolytes every day. These things are mainly salts and unless they need these salts, this could cause a build up of toxins. So cut back to once a week with the electrolytes. You would be better off with vitamins or probiotics.

I think you should be a vet involved in this. Do some blood work ups to see just what is going inside their bodies.
