Please help me understand "shavings on wire bottom?"

Well... DD's bantams live on welded wire floor in the coop with an outside attached dirt run. In the winter we will put woodchips ontop of the wire for insulative purposes because right now it's completely open to the outside air and will be very drafty in the winter months.

But the rest of the time they are on wire. I don't know if this is having a negative impact on their foot feathers or anything though... doesn't seem to be but I haven't checked them like I would for a show.

Hey there... egg collecting is SLOW going

right now... I'm trying to fill a hatching eggs order but it looks like I'm going to fall seriously short.

I'm putting up lights this weekend!

Thank you Dawn, I keep losing posts. So sorry it took this long to respond. I appreciate the feedback.
I have heard that it is actually good for their feathers to have them on the wire.
But you are right, it would get awfully cold in the winter.

Thanks again
