My cutie Wewe has been off to me for a couple months now, but has been eating, drinking, laying eggs and free ranging under supervision, all the normal behaviors. But I did post awhile back asking anyone if it’s normal for her eyes to always be half open, but never got a response. Her eyes look like cheech or Chong.
I went to get eggs this morning and she was in the coop on a perch. She never lets me hold her, she is usually pretty skittish, but I walked right up to her and picked her up. Now I know it’s serious. She’s lethargic, can’t keep her eyes open, and her breathing seems labored. She won’t stand up, I put her in a crate and she just layed how I set her. I gave her some nutridrench and water, and have offered eggs and treats, but she’s not interested. Everyone else seems active and fine, this one has seemed off for a couple months but was still active. She is now laying on my lap. I know this is all very vague, but any suggestions? I’ve checked her all over and felt nothing unusual. Thank you in advance.

It sounds like she's dying. Not there yet, but her behavior points that direction. How old is she? I take it this has been going on for quite a while?

When was the last time she laid an egg? Was she having trouble with egg shell quality? Can you post a pic of her poop? Is she losing weight? Feel her breast bone.

I thinks she’s dying, too. Her breat bone feels pronounced. She is 7 months old and laid an egg two days ago, and it was perfect. The nutridrench and water have done nothing, and she’s not eating. I don’t have a pic of the poop, if she gets up and does poop I’ll get a pic. How bizarre this is to me.

She's much too young to die on us. That she just laid an egg is good, although she may be having an issue with her next egg.

Two things you need to do right now. First, give her a calcium tablet. Whatever you have on hand. Calcium citrate is best but Tums or calcium carbonate will do. She needs at least 600mg directly in her beak. Do not dilute or crush.

Next, give her sugar water to drink. This will elevate her glucose and give her a needed shot of energy to cope with what's going on.

If you need to go out and buy the calcium, here is what to get.

I do have those I will give her now. And I agree, she my baby ❤️

Syringe the sugar water into her. Do it like the photo below.

Those are petites and just 400mg. Give her two per dose.

Thank you so much!! I will give her one more and let her just sleep on my lap wrapped in a blanket and keep her inside until I see an improvement. You’re a godsend, it’s great knowing there is help available . Thank you again ❤️🤗

Getting the sugar water into her is very crucial. Try to get some into her every half hour until she wakes up and becomes alert enough to be interested in food. Tempt her with some soft boiled egg.
