hello,
my name is Sam. i had 2 broad breasted turkeys. both females. 1 passed away a few weeks ago. the girl that is still alive she is a bronze turkey, she has been having a horrible day since yesterday. she cant walk or stand up at all. i have to hold her on her chest to keep her standing. her feet she keeps just gripping on herself. she will eat and drink. she sings with me still but i dont know what it could be. i was thinking bumblefoot? so i got some epsom salt started a warm to mild bath, filled it up enough to where it covered her feet and belly but nothing more than that. please tell me what i can do to make her stand up and be happy again or is it time to say goodbye? i dont want to. i love her she is my turk and we always sing together. i get to pet her and spend time together since she has been inside we watch tv together this is my girl and i would hate to lose her too. i just dont know what to do. no vet around me will see her they say they dont have a vet that deals with turkeys and keep giving me more numbers to more vets that turn me down i just need help. i dont care the cost at this point

Welcome to BYC! Can you post some pictures and a video of her? To post video, upload to youtube or vimeo, then copy/paste the link here.

A picture of her poop would also be helpful.

I don't know anything about turkeys, but I do know with bumble foot you should be able to see a hardened callous on the bottom of the foot. If her legs are infected from the bumble foot, they would be red and swollen.

Epsom salt baths are very soothing and healing, so I would give them to her daily, a full bath and not just her legs. But even bathing her feet and legs is restful and not at all harmful. Do be sure to thoroughly dry her if it's cold where you live.

For chickens I know you would be advised to add electrolytes and poultry vitamins to her water. I'm thinking the same advice would apply for turkeys. At this point, considering the recent loss of her turkey friend, I would definitely supplement her water. You could do a quick search on Google and find a homemade recipe or suggestions on what to use. You can almost always give human grade vitamins. You'll just need to dilute them.

Can you tell us the age and breed of your turkeys and your location? What were the symptoms of the one who passed?

Hopefully you'll some good feedback on what to do to help her.

Oh, and be sure to let us know what you feed her.

Please keep us updated on how she's doing and post photos if you can.
