Please Help Me!

I finally ran an extention cord and put an outside timer on it for the light. I have their waterer plugged into that as well and it can't be on a timer so I have a cord that takes three items run. All I have for light is a 40 watt bulb coming on around 4am. The light goes out around 5pm. They have a little light inside after its to dark for them outside and know it. They use the time to get settled.

The number of eggs has picked up a bit since adding it.

I always bragged that my 7 hens laid all winter long in a cold dark shed.Well shoot guess who hasn't had a single egg in over a month?!?!?!

In fact my mom bought farm fresh eggs and brought me some on thanksgiving. How embarrassing!

Agway has a 21% protein for about $13.99 here. See if you can find it.

Now if you've added new birds or subtracted birds or made changes to the coop this could be a cause. I sold 8 hens from the Delaware coop and the girls let up for a time. Now they are back in the groove. Stress can cause things to change until things get back to normal.

Even the addition or subtraction of one bird can cause the dynamics of the coop to have to be reset. If the birds had a scare too.

I try to clean the coop as slowly as I can so I don't cause any of the girls to freak out. When I collect eggs , if there are hens in the nest box I leave her alone and move slowly to get the eggs from the empty boxes. I don't believe in communal nest boxes. Laying an egg is a private matter. Even if she does get up afterward and announce it to the world.

I hope things improve,

I have their windows boarded right now. I need to get out there and fix the slides for the windows I made so they sit right. Hoping we get it done sometime soon so I can reset the timer. So only reason they have light during day is so they can see. They seem to like light on in the evenings for a while. They will scratch around a bit and finish up their roost squabbles well before the light goes off. Some of them were waiting until they couldn't see almost before I put the light in. It's only been going since the weekend before Thanksgiving.
