PLEASE HELP! MY CHICK IS LIMPING AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!

I'm currently sitting in the vets office with Lucy... The big bulge is actually her organs. He doesn't know what's causing it but he's running a fecal test now.... They can do X-rays but it's 300 dollars plus 40 for sedation.... I don't know what I'm going to do yet....

thats too much money for a chicken that may or may not be healthy. i read about this before, something about the hatch are they covered with skin? i will try to find it.

eggs not turned right or bad hatch and it pulled them out far as i can find on short notice. but they are exposed. if these are not i would do a wait and see. no vet would charge like that for a chicken i dont believe. just my thought

something else, if he knows what this is and he has done it before then he should know what caused it. and i didnt know you can put a chicken to sleep to operate. you cant birds

Poor Lucy. I will send good vibes her way.

And chickens and birds can be sedated, usually with isoflurane. There are riskier drugs, but it's 'impossible' for a vet to use them normally because of the risk. I've done anesthesia or seen it done on songbirds, eagles, parrots, etc. But there is always some risk, and cost, to consider before doing it.

Cat, let us know what else the vet says and what you decide. *hugs*

Thank you. I think we're just gunna see how she does on her own. She's happy and eats fine, so there's no problem right now... It's just an unsightly bulge at this point...
