They do need a house to sleep in,for safety/warmth and keeps them sheltered from the weather. If you suspect it may be cocci, treating them will not harm them, but not treating if they have cocci, will result in deaths as cocci does kill very fast. They do have access to grit?

They have a house with 3 sides and a roof over half of the pen. They can get out of the weather and it has roosts in it. They get grit with their food and I bought oyster shell this week because I thought they would be starting to lay eggs soon. My girl in the house is a little better. I am trying to find a source I can get the Corid from that will get it here sooner than ordering from the internet.

Most feed stores should carry it,may be under the name of Corid(amprolium)(Corid is the brand name) or called Amprol(amprolium). In Canada i have to purchase it from a vet. I believe you can use dairy products in particular i think it is buttermilk(coats the intestines)until you can find Corid.

Would yogurt help? I definitely am going to give buttermilk tomorrow.
On a side note, no one will ever believe that I am having chickens die from a contagion that is caused by wet weather. I live in Kansas.

I live in SW Kansas. We had a fairly wet year here too. Between that and the wind is why your birds need a good shelter. A three sided home is good, but it won't offer them much protection from the wind or humidity. Not to mention the cold this winter. They will need a heat source. Be good to your birds and they will be good to you!

I am so sorry for your losses. I understand how helpless it makes you feel. This is a great place for advice and help though. I've learned a lot and am still learning. Last year I was new too and had many problems. Started with 16 and now have 4. ()6 were roosters), but of the remaining ones several were sick some like you describe.I never did find out why. I suspect some of mine were sick from the get go. A second batch of 10 from the same (private) supplier didn't make it past 2 weeks. So I believe in my case it just wasn't healthy stock. Not much you can do with unhealthy stock even though I tried very hard. This year I got chicks from a different supplier and everyone is good and healthy and no roos.
Sorry I can't be of more help! Best wishes to you.

My DH is building them a coop, but there have been other developments in our world that are causing the construction to be delayed. I just returned from my 3 hour drive to the nearest supplier. I wanted to check and see if there were any other posts. The Corid is going into the water today. I will keep posting the results. If anyone has any other hints or follow up for this I would appreciate any help. I do feel much better now that I at least have some medicine and can do SOMETHING besides watch them die.

seems like alot of crd this year but i guess u would have noticed their eyes. i had a beautiful flock until last week. i started them on arueomycin yesterday but waiting for diff. stuff from vet. nylan i think. you know we are put on a broad-spectrim antibiotic when doc doesnt know whats the matter with us. why not chickens? what ever it is,i hope they get better
