HI EVERYONEive just been to my allotment where my geese live. I have two geese and a gamder the girls are laying. My fabourite goose just went into a different nest box went in a couple of circles (i thought shewas nesting but then she started gasping) i lifted the.lid both her wings came upand her head flopped and she died. This all took literally two three mimutes. There was nothing im her throat an her vent all clean were absoloutly devastated there our pets more than birds doesanyone have any ideas please she had been acting fine swimming in the pond

Wow, sorry to hear that. I hope you get some better responses as the avian world is very new to me. It almost sounds like a heart attack, though? Does that breed of goose tend to have general health or heart issues? I know Cornish Cross chickens are prone to heart issues.

The last time I saw something like this was when a duck of mine had a punctured air sac. She had been injured in a dog attack and I knew she had the injury. I was treating her for about a week when she suddenly had something like a seizure. She started gasping, her wings flew out to the sides, she was trying to gasp, but couldn't draw any air in, and her head flopped down. She spent a few minutes twitching, wings outspread and trying to draw air in, but couldn't for whatever reason. She passed very quickly...within a minute or two. I later found out that her lungs had collapsed due to the lack of positive pressure from the puncture to her air sacs. The tear in her air sac had reopened and the rush of air into the system had caused her lungs to collapse. She was unable to draw any air in the re-inflate her lungs after breathing out due to the additional opening in what is supposed to be a closed system. I am trying to explain this as best as I can remember, but the explanation was so technical that I was a little lost at the time.

Did your goose have a recent injury, especially to her back or lower back of her neck area?

No no injury her pen is a good size an they free range when were there its funny u should say a heart attack pdirt thats what my hubby said really is a mystery so upsetting poor thing

Well, I am stumped, then.

I am sorry for your loss. It is always hard to lose pets suddenly and unexpectedly. It is especially frustrating when you have no idea why they passed.
