Please help my hen has an egg outside her body but trapped by membrane

I think you did the right thing. Now it is up to her. You could feed her laying feed, it won't hurt to do that. Sometimes just some rest and recuperation will do the trick after such a trauma.

Wishing Josefina a speedy recovery.

I would suggest that you keep her in a dark place until she starts healing. You wouldn't want her to have another egg try to pass the incision. Giving her very little daylight may inhibit her laying and give her time to heal.

I would also give her some time with the other chickens each day (as long as they don't pick on her) so her return won't be a traumatic event as well. Time totally away from the flock may upset the pecking order and put her at a disadvantage.

X2. I think you did the best for her that you could. I hope things go OK and that she recovers well. I'll be thinking about both of you - please keep us updated

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! ( with tears in my eyes)... I am praying that tomorrow is a much better day for the poor gal...I WILL do the best for her and make sure she does not have too much light but, is back in with the crowd ( not being picked on of course!)... Oh.. what a day in the life of a chicken lover ( and poor hen) it has been. I will feed her a little spiked H20 before bed. You all have been the best!!!! My poor Josefina thanks you from the bottom of her blue producing nest and from the top of her beautiful puffy cheeks ( Americana ..lays such a pretty egg!)..MORE updates tomorrow.. tune in... I will be here .. most likely up every three hours.. you know... a MAMA never sleeps! THANK YOU .. THANK YOU .. THANK YOU!!

I sending good thoughts your way - looking forward to hearing a good update tomorrow.

You may also want to offer her boiled egg yolk mashed with some plain yogurt...good protein and a good treat. Anything to get her max nutrition while she heals.

Please update us tomorrow...

for you & Josefina.
That was a courageous thing you did, doing the incision to try to help her, and it's obvious how much caring you are giving her. Good for you for doing all you are. I hope she pulls through well.

Update - This morning she is on her perch in the dog kennel... so still alive.
