Hi, I need help with my 28 week old ameraucana pullet (her name is Gertrude and she is far right in my picture ).... I don't know why, but she started laying down often and not going up into the coop with the others at bedtime. Then, when I would put her down, she would land on her face and start flapping and dragging it then just laying there. Now, she is isolated in a medium sized cage, staying in one place. She is pooping, but it is runny and some has blood. We have to force-feed her with a syringe. we give her water and dissolved food in water.....We also have given her 12 mL of water soluble antibiotics......Help!! | need a response with a diagnosis/cure/tips.Thanks!!

** I forgot to say she isn't laying yet and yes, I have checked her vent**

Have you checked for worms, or have you dewormed her? I would also try treating for coccidia...Corid is the medication, you find it at tractor supply and mix it in her water.

You could also give her .5mls of poly vi sol, without iron, once a day and 400ius of vitamin E twice a day. This could take a while to help.

If none of this helps, I'm sorry but I'm not sure that there is anything else that you can do.

If she does die, you may want to have her necropsied so that you will know what went wrong and whether or not it is something that can effect your other chickens. Most states have labs that will do them for little to no cost.

Sorry that I couldn't have been more help..hopefully the suggestions I gave you will put her on the road to recovery.

Thanks but now she's very much worse. Her sister pullet has started laying..She now has a twisted neck (so twisted that she faces forward in a bad way, it is twisted completely) and doesn't come get treats and never goes into the coop. I am sorry to say that she has a 90% chance of you know, passing. :(

She isn't the same and I can no longer stroke her and spend time with her.
