Hello I have a year-and-a-half old coturnix quail and yesterday she was doing great she was very energetic I gave her some mealworms she was acting like all of the other quail then at the end of the day when I open their coop to usually say hi give them a couple treats and then replace their food and water she came lumbering up super tired she gave a couple of half-hearted pecks and then went back into the coop and fell asleep I wasn't that concerned I had assumed she had just woken up. But for the entire next day she continued being tired and got more tired and more tired and I got increasingly worried. So I have her inside and isolation cage because this had happened once before. My other quail who has since then passed got a disease that you guys in this community said it was quail bronchitis. When I took her inside I saw Brown splatter marks and she's fluffed up this is exactly what my other quail did 4 days before she passed. Is this the way quails die? If so please let me know if I should get her put down to save her suffering. Does anybody have a treatment? I don't know how old she was when I got her but I have had her for a year. She is still scratching herself(just saw that). Should I have her put down? Or should I try to cure her? Please let me know what to do. Should I put her down, or try to cure her? last time this happened my quail died. Please help me. Also she is gasping and sneezing this brown liquid. PS those bald spots on her are and old injury that has been delt with and the feathers just never grew back. Also this quail had a pretty interesting life please let me know if you would like to know about this quails odd and wonderfully life. Sorry about the jumble of this Post I am sad. This is my quail that I daydream of while at school, play with while at home and love with every cell in my body. Please help me😭💔 fingers crossed🤞

I am so sorry your quail is not feeling well! Unfortunately I am not familiar with quail ailments, and therefore cannot answer your questions. However, I wish you luck with your bird, and hope someone with more knowledge will come along shortly.

A year and a half to two years is old for a japanese coturnix quail. To put it into perspective; from day of hatch to 6 weeks they've gone from newborn to adult. At 6 to 9 months, it's customary to retire them (replace them with younger, more productive hens). Your girl has lived to a ripe old age, and as long as she has a good quality of life, I wouldn't put her down; when her quality of life is no longer there, that would be the time to ease her suffering. She's old. She's real old. *hugs*
Will keep you and your feathered family in my prayers.

Thank you. But there is one weird thing she laid and egg every two days sometimes even daily. She laid eggs every two days last week! She also laid an egg two days ago and was very energetic until yesterday at around 6pm she became this sick quail. It's weird. Do quail die this way?

If so damn quails are weird and wonderfull!

Truth is, I replace my hens long before they get as old as your hen. I cannot tell you how natural end of life presents in a quail. I do not raise quail as pets, I raise them for meat and eggs. That said, your girl has truly lived to a ripe old age for her breed.

Ok. BTW the quail after being able to just sleep for a while she has been acting much better. I think it is possible she has a mild sickness but the other quail wouldn't let her sleep it off. I kinda panicked at first when I saw her condition she is not doing great but she is doing better.
