Please help!!! Pullet just pooped out blood with clots in it!!!

My chicks werent even in dirt and they got Cocci.
The sulmet worked wonders and probably kept us from losing all of them. Someone here...Speckledhen maybe?...also suggested giving them a bit of yogurt each day while on the Sulmet to rebalance their system and put good bacteria back in.
Mine perked up alot after that!

How is your hen doing now? You know, in addition to cocci, a heavy worm load can cause bloody poop. Safeguard (panacur, fenbendazole) is a wormer that is also anti-protozoan in nature, which is what cocci is caused by.

I there. I too had a bloody dropping today. Do I have a cocci problem too?! It's the only spot I have seen...should I wait and see if there is more?? If this is the issue what exactly is sulmet and how do I treat them with it? Thanks a ton!

IMO, it's better to use Corid (concentrated Amprolium, a thiamine blocker) rather than Sulmet. Sulmet is a sulpha drug that can cause intestinal bleeding to continue longer than it should and make you think that the cocci is still there when it may be gone. Sometimes it's harder to find Corid/Amprol, though.

Some droppings can be reddish from eating tomatoes or from normal intestinal tissue shedding that occurs on occasion, too. Cocci is the culprit in younger birds, but by the time they are laying age, they are pretty much immune to the oocycsts in the soil.

My birds are right about 19 weeks old. They started laying this past week. Should they be past the age to get cocci? I have only found one spot of bloody poo in the whole run and I can't see anyone doing it again. It's definately a big blob that is red. It looks like the pic on the poo pic page but not as runny. I'm starting to worry now.....

Oh an after thought are the eggs ok to eat?

Ok thanks...I live a bit out of town and really just got home. Little bit ago so I really wann make sure this is the issue before I drive back. Price of gas ya know? Haha. Well perhaps I should just go get some. Can it hurt them if they don't hav cocci after all?

One of my girls began pooping pure blood last Tuesday. They are all about 5 1/2 months old. I didn't think it was Cocci, esp since the others were fine. But, due to the wonderful responses on this site, I purchased some Amprol (couldnt' find Corrid and Sulmet I was trying to avoid). I'm happy to report that a week later, she is not pooing blood any longer and is doing wonderful
