i had 4 eggs make it to hatch time...i wanted to try the egg carton method this time..because i have no luck the other way either.

i just checked on the 2 that were due to hatch yesterday... one made it full term but never pipped and died...the other had pipped, but he pipped at the BOTTOM of the shell...and died! so now i am in a panic here..should i take my other 2 eggs out of the carton and lay them on their side...they are due tomorrow... I'm afraid of more pips at the wrong end...any help, thanks, Wendy

Chicken eggs?

I'd leave them in the cartons, pointy end down.

I tried that and one of my chicks pulled all his leg muscles trying to get out. It was too much effort to push himself out the egg and then out the carton. He couldn't walk for 3 days but finally recovered. I'm not very fond of it, but it does make zipping easier, just not hatching.

okay..thanks Mahonri.

but, how will i know if they pip the wrong end again?

Unfortunately, you can't tell...... did you cut a lot of the carton away?
