Announcement Please Help & Reply To Unanswered Threads

I’ve done a few over the weekend and a couple this morning :) Quite a few of the unanswered that are left from the BST section. Would there be a geeky way to have those in another list? Just a thought.

There are no polite answers for some of the questions.

I have a tendency to read post titles, and grumble answers to myself, such as,
"Just butcher that chicken and be done with the matter."

(People with cockerels who can't have males, aggressive roosters, crossbeaks that require long-term special care, hens with recurrent issues such as bumblefoot or prolapsing, hens that are chronically bullied, injuries that will take a long time to heal or never will, and a variety of other issues.)

I usually don't say it in their thread, because I recognize that other solutions often do exist, and they are looking for those other solutions.

"Your 'crowing hen' is really a cockerel" is one I really do get to say sometimes.

[Edit: oops, this was an idea I meant to post in the "things you wish you could say" thread. Sorry! Since there are now several responses, and it does somewhat relate to the unanswered threads, I'm just adding this explanation and leaving it stand.]

Telling someone the best thing to do is "just kill your pet chicken and be done with it" is not going to go over well. There is a lot of pressure to maintain peace and avoid conflict here so we bite our tongue. I think the owners and their moderators have created this culture (for better AND for worse) so when a post is not answered it is, in fact, a problem of their own making.
Now now.
One can certainly suggest euthanasia of a bird whose quality of life is so bad that the best thing for it and the owner is to put it quickly out of it's misery. I have done that many times.

It isn't hard to be kind but blunt and to the point.

I have seen some birds (and dogs and cats and ...) suffer needlessly because an owner is unwilling to let go when letting go is really the only kind option but others tell them they can try this or that and the misery is just prolonged. I will never suggest to try anything if death is the true option IMO.

But I readily admit to walking away from some of the threads that are just so "out there" that no reasonable answer is going to be heard. Some people have to learn the hard way and some won't learn at all.

Yes, on the whole I appreciate the general culture of being polite and respectful. I think it is worth the extra effort to find a way to say things nicely, or walk away from a given thread and hope that someone else can find a helpful way to respond when I can't.

I caught this introduction post off the list. How did that happen?

It possibly needed staff attention first :) Would be very unusual for the greeters to miss a post.
