Please help! Sick silkie and seems to be progressing quick! What should I do?

Ok do I have to do it in her breast or can I do it subq on the back/neck? I've never done this so I'm incredibly nervous

Apparently it can be given orally,may not be as fast acting,but if you are nervous this may be an option. Measure amount out with the syringe,then use an eye dropper and place on her beak(on forum it was given with the syringe,but i would be nervous of aspirating her this way).

HOLY CRAP, she laid an egg when she was in her laundry basket in the dark. It looks normal.

Ok, I think I am going to do it just under her skin on her back. I believe I read you can do it that way many times but correct me if I am wrong. Not only aspirating it, but throwing it up worries me too.

Oh and my life is the definition of Murphys law. I drove 2 hours to get this **** medicine and its 6 months past expiration. Oh well, better than nothing.

You can get antibiotics for pets off of eBay. The nice thing about eBay is that sellers usually ship ASAP and small items like medication tend to go by 1st class or priority mail so they arrive within 2-3 days without costing that much. And you can get Saturday delivery.

Why would you want to do this? Well, if she's still alive on Saturday, you don't want to be thinking, "Darn, if I had ordered on Thursday I would have antibiotics by now." You'll need them anyway for future chickens or if you get a tooth abscess (amoxicillin) and can't see a dentist right away.

I found one seller of cipro' in MN and another selling doxycycline and cipro' in MO. Those should get to you pretty quickly. Amoxicillin/clavulanate is harder to find but there's a seller in FL (search for "clavunalate"). My choice would be a combination of doxycyline and amoxicillin/clavulanate. The former is for atypical pneumonia (Mycoplasma and friends) and the latter is a broad spectrum antibiotic for typical pneumonia. Cipro' could substitute for amoxicillin/clavulanate.

I had a nice little emergency kit made up for my girls but of course, I was missing everything needed in this situation.

Are you suggesting I do a combination of the doxycyline and amoxicillin? And then stop the Tylan and Duracycline completely?

The injection could have gone better. I KNEW she would be a spaz, there is no getting around her attitude even when she is sick. I had her calm on her side under a towel ready to do the breast injection after watching some youtube videos and the SECOND the needle touched her skin she freaked out. That was enough for me to freak out and not want to do it. So I tried to keep her calm, lift her skin on the back side but she kept freaking out and moving and I finally got her calmed down and put the needle into the skin. She freaked out right when I got it in so I just squeezed it in quick. She wiggled so much that I cant say for sure she got it in her but I didnt feel wetness so I hope she got it.


Anyways, I brought her outside to get some fresh air and she saw the other 2 girls and started walking towards them right away! She wanted to be with them so bad so I am glad she has that fight in her. She seems less clumsy too! She was even attempting to free range and peck around. Its a baby step but I feel a little more hopeful for her! She is back inside where its dark and warm to rest and let the tylan do its job.

I'll wait to hear the final vote on what to order and try to get it in before I go to bed. I had really good luck with baytril in the past, prescribed by a vet, and have been searching high and low for the left overs but cant find it anywhere.

I am happy to say she ate a little mushed up feed! Just a tiny bit but with excitement. And I was surprised how well her perception looked too. I noticed she keeps attacking this tag on her towel with dead on aim.

Not sure what size (mg) the Cipro pills are, but the dose for birds is listed @ 10-40mg/kg twice a day.
