please help! We were out of town for two weeks (with a pet sitter in place) and returned to find my six year old orphington to have pasty butt and a sore on her vent after I gently bathed her and washed all her poop away. She’s pretty lethargic, still will eat and drink from a syringe but lays down a lot and isn’t herself. I’ve started tylan in her water, she’s eaten a few bites of yogurt, layer mash and some hard boiled egg and eight kernels of fresh cooked corn. Also after cleaning her, I’ve been applying poultry wound spray.

Not sure what this is but did hear her gurgle tonight when I held her before putting her in our chicken hospital. I’ve separated her from the other flock in a warm dark bathroom.

Any help would be appreciate!

This is the most recent one from her chicken hospital.

Can you feel of her crop first thing in the morning before she eats, and tell us if her crop is empty, full, hard, doughy, or puffy? It sounds like she has been ill, having diarrhea, and either the droppings burned her or she was pecked on her bottom. You are doing all the right things for her, cleaning her up, and cleaning the wounds. Make sure that her crop is working, and check if she is laying eggs. She might have a reproductive disorder or some other illness, but just try to get her eating and drinking.

Her crop seems empty. She hasn’t laid eggs in about three years.

She’s starting to pick at the mash I made this morning... so I’ll keep trying what I can! She’s six and has been the sweetest chicken so if it’s something I can’t help with, all I can do is keep her comfy!

I appreciate the reply and help!!!

Just wanted to update this is with bathing daily, keeping her inside and using betadine and nu-stock! She seems like she’s on the mend!
