Probably frostbite, but it will get infected if you don’t treat it.

Not that I know of. Maybe some non-pain relief neosporin? If he seems it's really uncomfortable (shaking his head, acting off, etc), I think you can give them some pain meds (aspirin, I think, but please verify before dosing). A salve may help keep it from getting worse. I think the black parts are frostbite, which probably won't heal completely but I don't have much experience in that area. Hopefully someone else can give more info. This is my first year dealing with it as I tried to stick to very cold-hardy breeds but am too much of a softy to turn down rogue roosters.
FYI, the salve is pretty much just beeswax, coconut oil, vitamin E, and dome lavender essential oil.

You can give him non-pain relieving neosporin. Make SURE it’s NON PAIN RELIEVING. Pain relieving is poisonous to chickens.

The black is necrotic (dead) tissue. Touching/applying stuff to frost bitten areas can and often does cause additional damage and pain.

Best to let them heal on their own.

Can I make the neosporin or should I buy it? Also if I need to make it what do I use?
