One of my chicks has popped a little of its eggs straight off and has pierced the membrane. However it hasn't done anything since 8:10am (UK time) which is now 8 hours ago nearly. The membrane was clear looking and now it's all white, is it ok? There's no noise or no movement and my incubator has plenty humidity. Should I leave it alone or is it drying out? :(
Oh and also he's pipped at the wrong end! Will try get a pic but not easy to see on phone!

I wish that I could tell you more, but as I am new to hatching chicks I don't know about the white membrane being Ok or not. As far as the no noise or whatever, that may be from it just resting. What I DO know is that it can take 24 hours for the chick to hatch after it pipped. As long as it has a hole where it can breath and get air, I don't think you should have problems...I know it is hard, but just wait and see, IMO.

There is a tiny slit where it poked its beak out (actually was looking the second it did it )
It just seems like a long rest.
The thing that's bothering me is I had a few chicks do this in my last hatch, broke quite a bit off and gave in and I don't have a clue why, they weren't sticky or wet or dry just gave up. Even the yolk was absorbed!
I part feel that it couldn't get out the egg and so died and I don't want it to happen to me again' I am also very new to this. I can't believe how anxious it makes me feel!

I totally get where you are coming from..I feel the same way. Honestly, I probably have interfered more than I should have, but it is hard not to because you see a little chick and you don't want to lose it. I would probably look a little closer, but I am a control freak. I am sure that I have lost a few due to this, but I probably have saved some too. IMO you do what you think needs to be done.

Well the chick has popped its beak out now and broke some of the membrane off with its little beak. It keeps opening his beak , I'm hoping it's not gasping for air.
It still hasn't moved any more though so I'm still hoping it's not stuck, although with the looks of the membrane, it looks very dry!

My chick still hasn't moved? Should I still leave it? I'm sure it's stuck!
Hi there! Sorry you haven't had speedy help. How is it going now? What's going on? A chick can take anywhere from a few hours to a whole day (24 hours) to go from pip to zip. Some of mine in my last hatch took 21 hours while a couple took 5. The membrane should be nice and white, almost papery. It does appear to be dry like paper, but that's good, that's what you want. If you start seeing teh membrane turn a brownish/yellow and looking leathery/sticky, that's when you worry. They will stick their beaks out and almost look like they are gasping, they are strengthening their lungs and learning to breath. My policy is not to interfere for 18 hours as long as the membrane looks good and there's still movement and the beak is periodically poking out.

If you want to keep him motivated and can play this near the bator:

The chick sounds will keep him motivated and when he's ready (the vascular system between the egg and chick shuts down) you should start to see him zip if he hasn't already. Good luck.
