PLEASE HELP *Urgent*

Dont let her suffer. Some times its better to think of them then our own feelings. Be strong. We will pray for you and your young family.

It sounds like something neurological. Sounds like seizure activity. I'm not versed well regarding chicken diseases, but I would look at something effecting the nervous system. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. It breaks my heart when a chick dies in the shell. It's even harder after you've held and fell in love with them.

I'm almost certain I have Avian Encephalomyelitis now.

Edit: Infected chicks must be killed, incinerated, and the ashes must be dumped in a landfill?!
I'm terrified now, if they have Avian Encephalomyelitis then can it effect humans? Oh my..

Edit: If she DOES have it then I already messed up by burrying Hazel.. Does this mean all my chickens are at risk now?!

Update: The chick has stopped having spasms again and is sleeping normally once more. Her beak is no longer opening and closing when she breaths and she seems peaceful enough now, she is chirping and sneezing a lot though. Will keep you posted.

Ignore that last post please, I'm now convinced they have cocci. I'm looking for treatments online so if anyone knows of any ways to prevent this for future flocks/easy treatments I'll greatly appreciate it. Sorry for being so hasty and jumping to conclusions, I just really want to keep them all alive, you know?

Thank you all for your help.

Update: Basil has calmed down almost completely now, she is sleeping well and is just sneezing a little bit now. I think she'll make it through the night. In the morning I will rush to get some vitamins as some posters suggested and will continue trying to keep all my chicks alive. I think I may end up pulling an all nighter at this point just to keep an eye on her, I refuse to let her pass if there's anything I can do about it!

I have no advice, I know nothing about cocci/chicken diseases but I'm very sorry

I can't imagine how awful this must be and hope they recover. Its great they have loving owners who are trying to save them.

Are they on medicated chick starter or un-medicated? If it's cocci I think they should be eating medicated feed. I have heard, however, that if the bird has been vaccinated against cocci then they should eat un-medicated feed...

My heart goes out to you -- I am hoping for the best.

If it is cocci, you can treat it with Corrid which you can buy at the feed store. Usually, if it is Cocci, they will be droopy and have bloody poops. I wish I knew more. Hope they pull through!

I feed non-medicated, the chick is looking very ill.. She can't lift her neck up anymore or move at all and wont protest when I touch her now. Poor girl.. She only has a few more hours left at this point.

I'm sorry.

If you suspect cocci maybe a course of corid would be a good idea. I think cocci poo is usually bloody though, not yellow... did you look at the poop page? I don't have the link on this computer but maybe someone else can post it.
