I just had a Sumatra chick hatch about 4-5 hours ago. It cant walk very good because its toes are curled up. Is this natural or do I need to do something? Its peeping and moving around but just doesnt spread its feet out. It is walking around on its legs.

See how it is standing after it dries off and gathers strength. I have one that is pigeon toed and walks fine, but there is a post somewhere here about chick boots for those situations.

Don't worry just yet. Sometimes, after being curled up in an egg for so long....it takes a bit of time for things to straighten out. Your chick may look fine tomorrow.

i can't really say bc i am new to hatching myself, but i have been givin chickens that have had leg problems and they have survived quite well. GOOD LUCK!!

Poor little guy.....Sometimes, just staying in the warm, moist incubator helps a lot. I would leave the little guy in there for 24 hours and let him rest and gain some strength. If that doesn't help, I have taped one of mines straight with a band-aid for a couple of days, worked wonders.

I had a chick with similar problems just last week. I made little orthopedic shoes for her with little pieces of card stock on the bottom taped on with sport tape. After 2 days it's feet were fine!

I just did this for my Chick, and although I had to redo it a couple of times because my chicks toes were really bad, and in order to not hurt her I had to un curl them a little at a time, she is now walking great! Her middle toe is just a little crooked, but it doesn't bother her!

I just have to say that when I first scrolled down and glanced at that picture, I thought it was a chick with duckling feet and was rather confused.

Cute! I've heard those tape shoes do wonders on feet that aren't quite right.
