Please help with peachicks crying!

As everyone said welcome to the world of imprinted peas Do you have any guinea keets? i always hatch keets with my peafowl because they make great brooder mates for them, they help me tremendously when trying to ween a wee pea from me. A stuffed animal may help some also

Unfortunately, I do not. I put a stuffed bear in there but it does not help.

I believe so. Attached is a photo. They just seem very attached to me. Even if I go in the kitchen it's high pitched peeping and paving. The minute I am in front of them they stop. What worries me is if I try to wean them off for me I don't think they will eat or drink. I am A little overwhelmed at the moment.

You might want to get a scale and start weighing them. At this age they should make daily gains. I would weigh them and as long as they were gaining, I wouldn't worry. Make sense?

Just wondering how your two peas are doing? I read this thread before I hatched mine and it really prepared me for the crying! 3 of mine hatched and they pace the brooder and cry like crazy when I leave the room! I turn the AC on high in my room and try to ignore them. Eventually they quiet down. I have one that I had to assist at hatch time and he can't seem to go to bed at night until I take him out and let him cuddle in my hair for a few mins. It's amazing how they imprint. Thanks again for all the suggestions on this thread. They all help a lot! OP, hope your babies are giving you a break!

Hi,
Just seeing how you got on when transitioning your peas to the outdoors. I have two 5 week old peachicks who are extremely imprinted on me. They follow me everywhere but have become used to being left at night. They cry for about 15 minutes and then stop until about 9am.
Just trying to get prepared for the 8 week mark when they are able to go into an outdoor pen. Many thanks!

omg this thread made me laugh. My daughter has peacocks but raccoons kept getting the eggs. Solution was to put them under my broody Muscovy ducks. Unfortunately they killed the first one to hatch - like what the hell is that thing? After that I rescued eggs as soon as I saw cracking and hatched them inside my oven. Worked really well. Started the 3 peachicks in a container with heat lamp. Learned quickly how soon they can jump/fly and kept increasing size and height of container. Ended up blocking off area of spare room floor for them. I though the larger space was necessary for their growth and exercise. I still laugh thinking of the sound of them running on the floor. I hung the heat lamp between ladders so they could go there as they needed. Nothing like the sound of peachicks pecking metal ladders at 3am. I really enjoyed spending time with them but yes they chirp a lot at first. Found it helped to tire them out with play time. They also liked to snuggle with hot water bottle wrapped in old towel. By about day 7, they were independent teenagers and I was no longer the coolest thing. Hang in there. I doubt they are not going to starve, dry of thirst, or peep themselves to death.

Hi. I’m coming into this very late but I’ll share what I’ve tried.
if I cupped my hand over their back, they quit right away. I think it might feel like being tucked under the mother hen.
Then when they were with outside and hoped up on my lounge, holding my hand was crazy. She is so much more needy than the peachick I put with her at two weeks. He settled down.
So I tired a light blanket. She loves it. She cried fo a long time until I tried these tricks.
maybe try to think what their life would be withtheir moms ?
I think at night they might like a shorter box and blanket over it.
Until I tried all of these tricks she cry/ chirped on a 2 hour drive, the whole way!,
Even then it was touch and go. I made the a little sleeping bag with the opening supported open.
now she is doing great at three months Doesn’t need new blankies much any more

Oh thank goodness I found this feed. I just hatched 2 out a couple of days ago and the moment I leave the brooder they are so vocal until I come back to them. Haven't had a minutes quiet for a couple days until I figured this out. I took a fleece tuque, pinned it upside down inside my shirt and put them in the bottom (which used to be the top of the hat). Finally peace and quiet and sleeping. But I don't know what I am going to do when they start to get to big though. Hmmm However it is nice to know others have experienced this.
