A few months ago I bought 2 female Valley Quail & 5 males. They all do fine in the cage together. You'd think the fertility was good... Well, I have only had 4 hatch & they are die on me... I raise many different breeds of birds so I know what to feed them and everything... I'm not sure how old they are... I am wondering if maybe there is something wrong with them... But they all look very healthy! Any advice?

bad ratios = low fertility. even though it would seem it would be better, there is too much stress and the males spend a lot of time fighting w/ eachother. you will have much better fertility by getting rid of 3 males and just keeping 2 pairs. hope this helps

They could be all brothers & sisters of a few generations,so find some more quail from a different bloodline to add to your convey of quail.

You are probably right... The person I got them from seemed pretty knowledgeable & everything but who's so say he was honest... ugh...

I would try again and see what happens keep notes on everything you do for the next hatch. If you have the same bag of food don't use it it could be bad but not bad enough to hurt the older quail. But I would separate the other males into another cage
