I seriously doubt that it's some scary disease brought in by your new ones.I did separate them until a few weeks ago. I had them all separated from the time I got them.
I did treat them with corrid for 7 days. I got wazine, but is there a better wormer out there? It could be something as simple coccidiosis or worms.
Well the guy I bought the lavenders from has been doing business for years, raising chickens and selling pullets.I seriously doubt that it's some scary disease brought in by your new ones.
Yeah, his birds are immune to the disease they carry..Start mixing Birds that do not have the same diseases and they get sick..Any stress to Chickens brings out disease..They are more complex than people think.Well the guy I bought the lavenders from has been doing business for years, raising chickens and selling pullets.
Contrary to the gazillion of posts out there, Corid treatment is 3-7 day at a higher dose, then 7-14 days at a lower dose. This is the treatment the mfg, FDA, and FARADrecommends.I did treat them with corrid for 7 days. I got wazine, but is there a better wormer out there?
Great information! Thank you! I will extend the corid and buy one of those wormers. I appreciate this information so much!Contrary to the gazillion of posts out there, Corid treatment is 3-7 day at a higher dose, then 7-14 days at a lower dose. This is the treatment the mfg, FDA, and FARADrecommends.
Another web misinformation is that Corid treats all coccidiosis - WRONG! Corid does *not* treat all strains of coccidiosis, so if they had coccidiosis, it's possible they had a strain that Corid does not treat.
Wazine only treats large roundworms, so something like Safeguard or Valbazen might be e better choice if you have something other than large roundworms.
Again very good information. I haven’t been feeding them feed mill feed yet, I’m still buying them the dunmoor feed from tractor supply.... the grower feed. I will definitely check out the dates on the feed bags.I do agree that it is unlikely a disease came with the new ones.
Unlikely but not impossible.
Soooooo..... Looking at feed....... If you aren't already aware there is a mill date printed on the bags. It is on the sewn on ends. Please always make sure you are buying feed that is fresh. I have been known to hit 4 or 5 stores looking for feed milled within the last month. I have seen bags of feed on store shelves over 8 months old.
Again not super likely but a possibility is that the feed was old and spoiling.
Without a necropsy it is *impossible* to know for sure what killed them. My best guess is that it's something like coccidiosis, worms, or a bacterial infection of the intestines, not some scary disease that your new birds brought in with them.Well the guy I bought the lavenders from has been doing business for years, raising chickens and selling pullets.
