i know one of my chickens has a respiratory disease but recently one side of his face got swollen. Will that swelling go down on its own over time or will i need to perform surgery of some sort? Its not covering his eye its not a big lump but noticeable. Its to the right of his eye the space in between eye and nostrils. the chicken does have eye discharge I've been given it tylan, cleaning eyes with solution and applying Neosporin on eye, and providing it vitamins and probiotics.

From what you describe, your treatment appears to cover all the bases.

It may be a respiratory disease, but it could also be a sinus infection. I have a very old hen and she gets a sinus flareup once in a great while. I treat her with an antibiotic eye drop and a steroid eye drop from a stash I have left over from cataract surgery. The swelling disappears in under 48 hours.

Yes, a photo would be helpful if you can swing it. You know what they say about a picture....

Swelling near an eye can be from fluid buildup in the tissue if it's a sinus infection, or it can be pus from an eye infection. If the swelling hasn't gone down and it's been a week, the eye could be infected.

In that case, removing the pus from the eye socket would be a big help in healing it. You would need to don some gloves and put gentle pressure on the swollen area, pushing the pus out toward the eye ball. It will be waxy stuff. Try to get as much out as possible. Flush with saline. Continue the antibiotic as well as the Neosporin.
