It’s been almost 24 hours. How many hours has it been since you last saw progress?
If you wish, you can gently peel away a few bits if shell to check the membrane. If you see that the veins are receded (brown/dry) then you can gently peel off shell in a ring OVER THE AIRCELL and moisten the membrane. If the veins are all receded, you can peel back them membrane and pop off the top of the shell, then leave the chick to work its way free.
Okay, I would wait until it's been at least 48 to assist. But others may be of more help like @WVduckchickIt’s been almost 24 hours.
Would it be ok to take the other chicks out?Okay, I would wait until it's been at least 48 to assist. But others may be of more help like @WVduckchick
YesWould it be ok to take the other chicks out?
Chick is out and seems healthy it had its yolk sack come out with it but it wasn’t attached?! It is walking around chirping away should I be worried? If its the egg in the picture in the first post, I'd pull the air cell end of the shell off. When they get a hole that big, they may be having trouble turning, and can't zip.
As Cyprus said, just check the membrane first and look for active blood vessels before pulling away too much shell and membrane. Let it pop out of the end of the egg on its own.
Chicken chicks should normally hatch within 24 hours or so, from pip time. Ducklings can take up to 48ish.
Good luck!
Is it trapped under that bar? Hard to tell?View attachment 1751412 Today is hatch day. I had 11 eggs. 6 babies hatched yesterday and seem really healthy, 1 pipped, and 4 haven’t done anything. The 1 that has pipped I can see is breathing but hasn’t done anything since around 3 yesterday. Should I help it? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
