My 1 1/2 year old hen has Gapeworm, how much of “Safeguard” (fenbendazole) do I give her? & how many days? She’s 6lbs

Are you sure its gapeworm? Did you swab the throat and see worms?

At any rate: 20mg for 3 days. If it is gapeworm it's best to treat the whole flock

Edit: sorry forgot to write per kilogram!!! But 20mg should still be more than enough.

Gapeworm is very rare. Respiratory diseases may be mistaken for gspeworm. What symptoms are you seeing? Is there any sneezing, coughing, head shaking, bubbles in an eye, nasal drainage, or eye swelling? Gapeworm and other more rare worms are treated by SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer 1/4 ml per pound or 1.5 ml for a 6 pound chicken given orally slowly to each chicken for 5 straight days. It will not mix in water.

As @Eggcessive says, gapeworm is rare, but it's the first thing people think of when they see a chicken gaping their beak. Most often, gaping is from an uncomfortable crop. You can verify a crop disorder by taking away all food and water at bedtime and checking the crop first thing in the morning.

Beak gaping can also be from overheating. Is it hot where you live? It's a sign your chickens need cool water and better air circulation.

It's possible it's a respiratory infection, but first rule out the simple stuff.

Thank you all that replied.... I talked to my farm vet..... I’m so devastated right now.... we had to put her down.... she had Marek’s disease 😭
My heart hurts so bad right now! But I thank god that he gave me her so she could live a good life. 😢😭💔
