Once they see blood, they are attracted to it and won’t stop pecking at it, unfortunately, so it happens very fast.I don't have a rooster, it is likely that my other hens just attacked her. I'm surprised that it happened so fast, I had never noticed her comb being bloody before this morning
yeah chickens tend to have taste for blood when it comes to wounds.I don't have a rooster, it is likely that my other hens just attacked her. I'm surprised that it happened so fast, I had never noticed her comb being bloody before this morning
Glad to hear that. Sometimes shock can last a few days. Can you post an updated picture of her eyes? Have you tried a warm, wetted down compress to get any crusty blood or goop off her eyelids?Update:
she was a little more energetic this morning, trying to walk around. but she still can't open her eyes, any advice on that?
I will get a picture as soon as I can. I've kinda tried a compress on her eyes, but she really doesn't like itGlad to hear that. Sometimes shock can last a few days. Horrific. Such a shock. Hens are so sweet and adorable..... until they are not. Wow.Once they see blood, they are attracted to it and won’t stop pecking at it, unfortunately, so it happens very fast.
Try a slightly warm wet sponge. It's lighter and softer than a towel. Does she let you cuddle her?I will get a picture as soon as I can. I've kinda tried a compress on her eyes, but she really doesn't like it![]()
Gently try to wipe her eyes as best you can. It might take repeated soaking with the compress to loosen them. You can also try using saline to rinse them off and see if that helps. Applying ointment may help soften any gunk holding them shut.I will get a picture as soon as I can. I've kinda tried a compress on her eyes, but she really doesn't like it![]()
