Hello all,

I am new to chickens and am very excited to finaly be getting started! I just got my baby Chicks on Friday and everyone was doing just fine until this morning I noticed that one of the chicks won't open it's eyes anymore! The chick will drink water from a dropper if forced, but she won't eat and still has her eyes closed. There is no "crusties" or puss/drainage on the chicks eyes and I do not see any bugs on the chicks. The chicks have been being well kept with appropriate heat, food, and water. Oh I don't know if this will aid in a diagnosis but I do see the eye itself is still moving behind the lids.

Please if anyone has any advice I would greatly appriciate it!! Thanks so much!

Thanks, I sure hope so I would hate to loose the little guy!

PitBulls and Chickens- sorry, I have no idea! I'm just getting started myself, good luck!

If you worried about infection, separate the sick bird from the other chickens to avoid spreading the disease.

Take an ill chicken to a veterinarian if possible. Chickens are often treated with antibiotics when they have eye infections. Some antibiotics may be applied in ointment form. However, other antibiotics must be ingested in tablet or pill form, and there are some that can be mixed with water.
