Ok, so I totally cleaned and scrubbed out one of my cat carriers. I used crud cutter, watered down to clean it. I put Donald in the cat carrier with no bedding for fear of bacteria and germs giving him an infection on top of his prolapse. I have been putting neosporine (no painkiller) on his pinis also. I plan on cleaning out the carrier the same way I did tonight at least once every day to keep germs at bay. I don't know what else to do other than what I am and to keep him totally away from the other ducks. He is in our house right now in the carrier. I figured that was the best place for him to be. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know....
I hate to not give him bedding but the bacteria and germ factor is a serious issue that I must considder....

How about a couple of old towels for bedding? Or, perhaps better, old sheets (thinking that it may be easier on that tissue that needs to retract).

I would not be in a hurry to "cull" the poor guy. Really. I just don't feel that is an option. I would keep up with as many lukewarm baths as I could manage, try the various cremes and ointments, watch out for infection and all the great things you are doing.

A number of drakes have gotten through this kind of thing if not 100% intact, at least fairly well healed up and living normal lives.

my mom had a pekin duck that had that problum. we had him in a water tub for five days before it finally went back in... so try to keep it hidrated much as posible and it should go back in. and give him a break from the ladys after it goes back in to help get the muscles back and use to what it should be.

Donald is hanging in there...or should I say out... He has already had some tub time, and had prep H cream put on. It still looks healthy so that is good. I have cleaned out his carrier once already today. I will have to look in to some of the puppy pee pads, that sounds like a great idea!

Ash-Rose Farms - If I could leave him in the tub I would but there are 6 of us living here and we only have 1 tub. Donald isn't the most people friendly of our ducks, he doesn't bite but he will hiss at you, and he will run away from you if you put him down so putting him in a container with water all the time would be a bit difficult. I will do my best to keep it moist though.

Miss Lydia, he is doing as good as can be expected I guess. I am trying everything I know to try to help him get back to his old self.

Amiga, culling wasn't even in my thoughts at all, when ever any of my birds, or animals, are sick or hurt they are given every chance to heal before any other thoughts run through our heads here. I have a cat that was dropped off as a kitten that had a broken rear leg, blind in one eye, and had a severe URTI (upper resp. track infection). I nursed her back to health and she is now a happy member of our family, her name is Angel. Because I believe an angel helped her to get to our place where she would be treated the propper way and be able to live her full life out and learn what love is.

I had noted that some references for dealing with prolapse recommend culling, and that is just not my approach to my animals, either. Glad for the reassurance. We take in strays and rescues as well.
