Went to collect eggs in the afternoon and found this? Was gone at night when I went to lock the girls away

That looks like it could be a shedding of the reproductive tract called a Lash Egg. Could also be backed up yolks or even a mumified egg that hung around the uterus a bit too long. These things can happen occasionally and be nothing to be concerned about or can represent a bigger issue. Sometimes a shedding of the lining can signify the ending of the laying years. But time will tell on this.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X3, looks like what they call a lash. Sometimes they come with an egg, sometimes they are just "laid" alone. They seem to think it is part of the lining of the hens reproductive system, often seems to happen with hens that are internal laying also. Old BYC thread on them and some links with other pics.

Thanks heaps guys I have a 5 yr old hen (our first girl Red) in the coop shes been laying without shells or one egg occasionally must finally be done laying.
