We don't have any avian vet's around here but I may send the photos to an avian vet in Raleigh that did a necropsy on my rooster last year. Problem is I really don't know which hen its from.

Snoopy, yes it could be. I'll probably know more next week when I have a vet look at it. He has a phD in avian sciences so he may have an educated guess based on the photos. It's a bit bigger than a quarter size-wise.

Here's the response I just received from my avian vet after he reviewed the emailed photos:


Hello Susan,

I am not sure what this mass is, but I expect that it came from the oviduct. Probably it is a mix of yolk and blood surrounded by a membrane secreted by the oviduct. Is the bird OK? Let me know if you have any question?
