Please Keep my Chick in Your Thoughts....

My two week old chicks were outside in a little chicken tractor for some fresh air and fun. We were keeping an eye on them and in the ONE minute I had my back turned a blue jay got in there and attacked one of my RIRs. Millie is such a sweet girl and I am distraught right now. The jay had by the neck and she was bleeding a bit (but not much). I rushed her to our local vet (who also happens to be an aviary and exotic animal specialist). Right now Millie is in an incubator and getting some extra oxygen. Her prognosis is guarded. If you could please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, I'd appreciate it.

Well, darn! I hate to hear that, I sure will keep the baby RIR in my prayers.......Never though about bluejays being predators, so I am glad you mentioned this.

I knew bluejays are mean little sons of guns but I never would have guessed they would attack a chick. My thoughts and prayers are with millie.

OMG! We have tons of blue jays and crows here on Mt. Rainier. I didn't know they were preditors for chicks! Thanks for the info. My heart goes out to you and I certainly pray for Millie!

Thats one mean bluejay! Maybe there was its nest near or something, hope your chick makes it!

Its a good idea to be guarded this time of the year. Blue jays are pretty predatory, especially when they have chicks. Hope your little chicky makes it.
