Ok I have a EE pullet who is going to be a year in April. She and her other 8 "sister" all get along well. I have no roo's. yesterday my son found her squatting, thought she was goaing lay and put her in the coop on a next. We were getting a terrible storm so we had to put them all in the coop. So I get home and see her, did the same thing. I checked her 4 more times and she would scoot across the floor to hide behind something, shovel, feed barrell etc. SO I put her next to the waterer under the red light. This morning she was the same.

I brought her in felt her legs and body dont notice anything out of the ordinary, have her in a dog crate with food and water. She ate 16 blueberries lol but is still in the sitting position. And see seemed ok other than not moving.

I should mention she lays huge golfball sized round eggs ( pretty green ones) and I th ink she is due to lay again.
Is it possible she is " egg bound"? If so what do I need to do to help her? Vaseline her vent?

Please and thanks in advance
Kathy

That's great that she laid an egg--no problems with the egg? So is she scooting around on her hocks? Like her feet are too weak to hold her upright? What is her diet--any chance of a deficiency? Plenty of protein and calcium? Does she have any symptoms around her face or eyes?

thanks so much for the reply!!

her diet is the same layer crumbles and I give assorted veggie and usually apples and bananas, this week they had cukes, and cherrios and some rice. i gave her iron free polyvisol water and ricotta cheese, she drank alot and still wont stand ,yes she scoots on her hocks, Her face and eyes look fine, she did loose her beard area feathers a few weeks ago but they seem to be coming back. no evidence of lice or mies that I can see. No lumps or bunmps or sores and her vent looks ok. well I think so anyways it was my first time getting up close and personal like that with a chicken lol The egg was fine, it was stuck to her feather but that is from not moving, and she isnt pooping much..... is this bad? oh they get acv in the waterer too. but none now while she has been in the house, My son is thinking the worst and beside himself that she might pass on, this is his chicken, muffy, all the others seem fine.

Any info is greatly appreciated

please and thanks

Kathy

Hi Kathy-I have read your post a couple of times and the reason I haven't responded is because I just don't know what to tell you.
Due to the fact that her only symptom is not moving, I have no clue what could be wrong with her.
I sure wish I had some help for you and I hope someone comes along that can give you some answers.
Good luck.

thanks, I hope so too,

i keep watching this thread lol. She is still the same she wont stand or walk. I tried to hold her up and she just flaps her wings. She eats her food and is drinking she does seem a bit thinner that usual but that could be from stress being in the house etc.

Of anyone has any ideas please...please post them. I am at a losss.

I've been reading so much on this form lately because I have a sick birdie.... one thing that I read had something to do with calcium. One lady said she had a bird that wouldn't walk and she tried a supplement and it worked. Maybe try and see if that's it. Do a search to see if you can find the thread I read about it.

I'm worried for your birdie. I had a chicken that wouldn't walk... I thought it was because of a broken hip but I wasn't sure. She went downhill really fast. We finally culled because she was clearly having seizures.

Hoping the best for your birdie!!

She laid another egg today but still isnt moving, I gave her a bath in the sink, she loved it and even let me use the blow dryer lol but she is still standing or walking, she scoots around but mostly just sits there. I have given calcium how long before it works?

anyone have and suggestions? anything????

Kathy,
Check out this post for symptoms that sound a lot like your bird's. Threehorses said it might be a nutritional deficiency for riboflavin and B vitamins, and she describes the symptoms for that deficiency "walking around on the hocks with toes curled inwards".

I hope you can figure it out and get your hen healthy and walking around again!! Good luck. And keep us updated.
