If that is the case then the poly-vi-sol should begin to help. But it will take a few days so be patient. Sounds like you have a house chicken!

Polyvisol, yes...but I'd also try brewers yeast too, unless there's a chance of overdoing it. I don't know. My chickens like a little brewers yeast (or nutritional yeast) sprinkled on their treats, btw.

thanks I will keep giving the pvs... just so I know... how much? I have been giving the smallest dose on the dropper .5mil is this twice a day? I hope that it is just a deficiancy. That is an easy fix! she has been in the house since the 10th with no improvement. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Now let me ask this.. if it is a vitamin deficency why only her and not the others? they all eat the same or is it the feed?? going to give more pvs thanks for taking the time to reply I appreicate it!!!

I am not an expert. But it seems to me that even within one particular breed, individual hens can substantially differ in their requirements of different vitamins, meaning that some can do without supplements while others cannot do so. I don't know why, except to guess perhaps it could be a breeding problem, where the laying hen was deficient in certain vitamins and thus wasn't able to pass the required nutritients to her chick. Just a guess, tho'. It would be more evident if the chicks were from different hens - especially if that also meant different breeders, because of varied nutritional practices.

Fingers are crossed for you, for sure Kathy!!

Could she be thinking she's broody?
If her poo is bright green, she's not eating enough. But she's not having a problem eating. Is she drinking? Her crop feels okay? Any broken bones or toes?

Her poo seems ok to me and her crop is going down at night, no broken toes I have felt her all over and she doent make a peep and everything feels like it should so no broken bones. No sneezing or coughing eyes are fine and clear no nasal discharege I am at a loss. I am going to keep with the pvs and oystershell and will feed her an egg this am too. I dont think she is broody she has laid 2 eggs in the last 4 days and then scoots away from it. A real mystery.

Broody doesn't seem to fit your hen. She would still be able to walk, if she were broody.

Kathy, do you have any brewers or nutritional yeast available to sprinkle a little onto the egg you feed her? That stuff is packed with B-vitamins. It would be nice to see her get back onto her feet, so that she doesn't permanently lose the ability to stand. Do you help her stretch out and move around her feet & legs, every so often? I don't know how that's done, but I remember last year someone had a "fallen down and can't get up" hen - they gave her some therapeutic assistance with leg and foot stretches until she regain the use of her feet.

I feel for your little EE. My EE is the bottom of pecking order and the smallest of the flock. I have to sneak a handful of mealworms to her, now and then, because she's pretty pathetic at foraging compared to our megatron-foraging machines, like the BA and BR. My DH said to me, today, that Zsa Zsa (that's her name, LOL, he named her!), might not be alive if I hadn't spent so much time boosting her nutritional intake. She lays a medium to large green egg almost every day, too. Still, she's the least amongst the bunch. And very timid, too.

Is brewers yeast the same as bread yeast? If so then yes I have some. I do stretch her legs I hold her to see if she will hold her weight and then I lay her on her back and let her extend her legs I do massage them chicken therapy lol and try to get her to move around last night she did try to stand but she really couldnt but she does seem improved in her spirits.

No, brewers (and nutritional yeast) is different - I get mine in a loose powder at our local food coop.

BTW, nice job on fowl massage therapy, LOL! And good to know she's attempted to stand. Keep up the good work!
