It is a beautiful egg!

My first one was a double "snake egg" -- soft and two welded together -- it looked like a "butt"! But tasted fine, I must say. My Welsummers had just turned 4 mos. old a few days before, so very early for that breed, and not supposed to start laying until 6 months. And they were still getting starter mash. So I went right out and bought layer mash and oyster shell, and they are laying every day, five pullets produce from 1-4 eggs/day. We get a double-yolker every so often. It is really amazing how every one lays a recognizable egg peculiar to that pullet. One is solid terra cotta, one has big spots and pale background, on has very regularly spaced tiny spots all over her egg. and the other has tiny spots top and bottom and none in the middle! I think one may not be laying yet. The "runt" is the one that lays every day!

I don't wash my eggs before eating, I guess I might if they had poo on them, but not otherwise, as it washes away the "bloom" that protects the insides from bacteria. They are nature's perfect packages!

There are some folks who advocate not refrigerating either, saying it dries them out faster, and that they will keep for several weeks unrefrigerated. I refrigerate mine, though. "Chicken" I guess!

OK so here are the pics of my presumed early layer, my EE: Maddie

And here is the egg, its tiny and olive-green, altough is hard to see.

Oh Maddie is beautiful, her feather color is very vibrant.
I sure love that soft green egg color too.

Congratulations!

Take lots of photos. I put up a thread for "artistic" egg photos in the Online Poultry Show thread....no one has posted but me.

Thank you very much! I love her color too, I have another one that looks just like her feather pattern -wise except for she is buff instead of brown. You can see her partially on the left side of the picture.

I hope my other 2 EE's will either lay blue or olive eggs, just like her!
