I'm so sorry Suebee! My heart breaks for you! You've helped me so much and I wish I could have been some help to you. When I read your post yesterday, I had so much hope. You cannot imagine how I felt when I logged in this morning to find the newest posts. What a shame. I've learned from you as well, I will not put my hen down either, I will let her live or die as is meant to be.

How long does an internal layer normally live though? I'm confused as to why mine is still here? It has been about 4-5 weeks now! I'll give my hen a little extra hug today.

Thank you guys...you're sentiments are beyond words.

Lusty, my internal layers only lived about 1 week after their symptoms, but this girl got sick and lived a lot longer.

Even though we don't know what's wrong with your hen,
there's still hope. Just keep using the broad spectrum antibiotic, because she may have something else that can be cured.

Thanks again guys.

Hmmmm...an average of one week. Then 4-5 weeks doesn't sound right for this diagnosis either...does it. I think that article I read about "reabsorbing" the liquid over the winter months could be a possiblity. She seems to have accepted her penguin type walking and still wanders a great distance around the yard. That's my update for today!

I had 2 hens (age 3 1/2) die this summer from internal laying. I did my best to make them comfortable. Kept them in "assisted living--part of the day I would separate them from the others so I could give the sick ones treats. They kept up with their routines as long as they could. Mine also rested by a broody as the broody was in a dark, quiet place in the coop. Both died during the night and I let the others in the flock see the body. It is very sad. I don't know If I could euthanize next time. I did have to euthanize a deformed chick that could not walk or stand and used the engine starter. I was wrenching.

Hi...just in case anyone was wondering....my first post was August 2nd....today is August 31st....and my hen isn't "better" but she isn't "worse" either. She is still here....the saga continues....hope everyone is doing well...

OMG, now I have another "power puff girl" with the greenish yellow poo. She spent the day in the coop but came out this evening. I gave her terrimycn-laced bread, which she gobbled up. I can't believe this!

I just wormed them all 2 days ago. I hope her system can handle both the wormer and antibiotic. She won't eat any yogurt.

She is also around 5, like the one that just passed away.

I'll let you know what happens.

Suebee, just a thought for you if you are concerned about getting the yogurt into her. There are several dried products that will work the same as the yogurt. The one that comes to mind to me is Fast Track. It comes in a bag the size of a small flour bag. It's around 19.00 a bag here, but it lasts a long time. It mixes will with other foods without any odor. I use it for the horses and chickens daily but at higher doses right after worming.
